2. Made on a budget of $1.2 million, mostly financed by Columbia Pictures (London), Age of Consent was filmed almost entirely in Queensland. Production began in March 1968.
3. When released in London in November 1969, the film was slightly altered. Peter Sculthorpe's soundtrack was replaced by a score from Stanley Myers. Six minutes from the Australian release were also cut. Its reception in England was generally positive, with The Times critic admitting to being 'disarmed by the film's extrovert robustness, its elements of very hearty, knockabout humour, its unaffected delight in Australian scene, its naive, uncomplicated eroticism' (Pike and Cooper, 1980, p. 315).
A restored version of Age of Consent screened at the State Theatre on Sunday, June 19, during the 2005 Sydney Film Festival. Afterwards, Sydney Morning Herald film writer Garry Maddox chaired a discussion with composer Peter Sculthorpe, editor Anthony Buckley, associate producer Michael Pate and production manager Kevin Powell (son of the director).
