Andrew McCreadie completed his postgraduate studies in musicology, obtaining an MA from the University of Sydney and a Ph D from the University of Hiedelberg (Germany). During the mid-late 1960s he was a Reader and Senior Research fellow at the University of Adelaide, becoming Dean of the Faculty of Music, 1975-76, and Professor of Musicology in 1978. Between 1966 and 1990 McCreadie was also editor of Miscellanea Musicologica.
