'Aoi Kashima' is the group pseudonym of nine Japanese translators who have worked together to translate Australian children's literature into Japanese. The group met at Ochanomizu Women's University in the 1960s. They decided to focus on Australian books because few of these were available to Japanese children. The group members are Noriko Kakita, Teruko Amano, Haruko Ichikawa, Hiroko Ishizaki, Chiho Kato, Mitsuko Kawamoto, Junko Manchu, Yasuko Okamoto, and Motoko Shimamura. Duncan Ball writes that the name 'Aoi Kashima' is 'made up of letters from the names of the actual translators' ('The Nine Lives of Aoi Kashima').
