BiographyHistory

William Storrie emigrated to South Australia at the age of about seventeen and went on to establish a merchant business. He later took his brother James into partnership and the business thrived as W. and J. Storrie and Co. He contributed columns to The Advertiser as 'Saunders McTavish', later publishing a collection of them as Letters frae' Saunders McTavish to his Guid-brother in the Kintra (Glasgow, 1874), 'in which he emerges as an acute and subtle critic of life in Adelaide' (Paul Depasquale A Critical History of South Australian Literature 1836-1930 (1978): 93).

Storrie was a member of the Legislative Council of South Australia from 1871-1878. He returned to live in England three years before his death in 1900.
