  • The Reconciliation Journey

This trail collates information and sources regarding the process of Reconciliation that has been initiated in Australia to inform both policy and cultural change to support Australians building respectful relationships with Australian First Nations people. Our trail focuses on key elements and chapters in the history of this process and we have built upon the conceptual frameworks used by Reconciliation Australia and outlined in their book series published in 2009. We have also compiled literature and works throughout Australian history to support the themes addressed within these frameworks. We hope the authors and works outlined in this trail will bring context for readers and researchers in their journey through the BlackWords/AustLit database.

"Reconciliation is about two groups settling their differences so that they can move forward together. Reconciliation in Australia is about Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians learning from each other, understanding one another and building respectful relationships. It is also about taking an active part in working together.

Today in all areas of society, health, environment, schools, sport and the arts, peole are taking part in reconciliation. Through their programs and activites they are demonstrating 'reconciliation in action'.
