AbstractHistoryArchive Description

An edgy and off-beat crime series that relies heavily on humour, contemporary music, and a touch of the bizarre, centring on the character of Elvis Maginnis. An ex-cop from the wrong side of the tracks, Maginnis now runs his own dry-cleaning business but still finds himself drawn into the shady side of life.

'Elvis Maginnis is in trouble and it's his family (as usual) who have put him in it. This time, he's suspected of master-minding an armoured van robbery that netted 1.8 million dollars. Why? Because the overalls the bandits wore came from his drycleaning business and because the MO is identical to a previous robbery--one that the police suspect his cousin Declan of committing. That was also a case that Elvis had investigated while a member of the Armed Robbery Squad. Coincidence, or is Elvis just plain unlucky?'

'Maginnis is in love — again. He's been seeing Carmen Francis, an intelligent, attractive, newly-qualified lawyer. They met when Carmen acted for a client with a claim against the dry cleaners. She's just perfect, and for Maginnis, this feels like it could quite possibly go on forever and ever and ever. True love though, never runs smoothly, and pretty soon, Maginnis finds himself in a sticky predicament. First, Maginnis is shocked to discover that Carmen is married — well, separated. Her husband is Noel Pomeroy, a used car dealer. Second, he's dead. Third, Carmen's at the scene. Fourth, Noel Pomeroy was killed with the wheel changer from Carmen's car. Fifth, Carmen begs him to alibi her. Maginnis looks into her eyes, loses all sense of logic — and agrees.'

'When Elvis' stepfather, Willie Monk, starts receiving death threats, it's not surprising the police don't want to get involved - Willie's been operating on the wrong side of the law for years. But when a young man is poisoned with a powerful pesticide and a bookie is thrown to his death, Elvis is drawn into a world of crime, deception and murder. And one thing becomes chillingly clear: there's a maniac on the loose! Elvis could be one of his targets.'
