Often referred to as the 'triumvirate,' the firm of Williamson, Garner and Musgrove (J.C. Williamson, Arthur Garner, and George Musgrove) was officially formed in 1882, although the three men had jointly leased the Theatres Royal in Melbourne and Sydney since November the previous year. The company later gained control of Melbourne's Princess Theatre and the Adelaide Theatre Royal (1886). Williamson (the senior partner) handled the actors and companies, Musgrove looked after the production side of the operation, and Garner organised its business affairs. Although the three partners dissolved the firm in 1890, following disagreements between Williamson and Musgrove, those two men soon put aside their differences and formed the management firm Williamson and Musgrove (1892-1899).
