A vaudeville company founded by Percy R. Dix and Reuban Baker, Dix-Baker was based out of Newcastle, New South Wales, between circa 1910 and 1921. Dix had previously been associated with variety entertainment in New Zealand, beginning in 1895. The Newcastle/Hunter Valley circuit, which operated the Victoria Theatre and Lyric Theatre (Newcastle) and various halls and theatres throughout the region, continued to be managed by Baker following the death of Percy Dix in 1917. By the early 1920s, Baker had expanded his operations to include venues and entrepreneuial operations outside the Hunter. In 1923, for example, the company oversaw a season at the Prince of Wales Theatre, Adelaide, by Pat Hanna's Famous Diggers.
