History
Presented by the Wheeler Centre with support from the Aēsop Foundation, The Next Chapter awards $15,000 prize money and industry mentorship to a new generation of writers who reflect the diversity of Australian identities and experiences, giving them the time and space to craft a voice and a career.
In 2022, the Wheeler Centre announced that the Next Chapter program would not open for applications in 2022, as the Aēsop Foundation has changed its philanthropic focus to overseas opportunities. In early 2023, after securing funding through the Australia Council, they reopened the project (for recipients in 2024).
